here’s a drawing that i did.  it’s a part of a series that’s become a bit extensive, but i’m enjoying it.  series is based on gestural figure drawings used as compositional maps.  using the maps to create portraits based on emotive reactions to subject matter, while dealing with formal issues like figure/ground relationships, mark-making, and all that fun stuff.

and here are a pair of paintings i did.  same series.

i’ve got three and a half more hours at this job.  pretty awesome.  i’ve tried to savor the moments, and be reflective and nostalgiac about activities taken for granted to no avail.  for the most part, i think i’m ready to go.  i’m going to dig in deep to my normal daily nap (yeah, i’m an old man), and then celebrate with some quality brew.  goodbye, routine.  hello, never-ending weekend.

starting next week, i hope to get a little more involved with these posts.  should get the camera workin’ upload some videos, photos, stuff like that.

in the meantime, here are a few links to frightening youtube clips:

then- and only then- can we take it higher.  not much to report today.  tomorrow is my last day working here.  over the past five business days i have slowly but surely reduced my productivity.  ideally, this will ease the rest of the office into the future — a john-shaped void.

in my usual way of over-researching the horror genre, i’ve found a little gem of a fellow by-name-uh jean rollin.  he was a french filmmaker, who made both vampire movies and porn.  netflix provided me with this nugget:

“Director Jean Rollin proves he’s the master of the lesbian vampire movie genre with this cinematic version of his novel of the same name.”

were you aware of such a genre?  i was not.  but i am looking into it.

why i decided not to climb the tree in my yard

there is a fantastic oak tree in my side yard, that has been begging to be climbed.  it’s kind of growing off to one side, and i feel like if i got a running start i could just sprint up the side of the thing and grab a hold of one of the lower limbs.  it has been on my list of things to do before moving, but today i decided not to climb the tree in my yard.

instead, i decided to cast myself as the lead role in a daydream about climbing this tree, and romanticize the fuck out of the experience.  this way, i will have no memories of mosquitos, bark-burn, or broken ankles.

so i climbed the tree, by getting a running start and sprinting up the side.  i grabbed one of the lower limbs and hoisted my boney ass up to a perfect sitting spot.  the sun went down in about 5 minutes, which was awesome.  there were no powerlines, houses, or other trees obscuring my view.  also, watching the sun set did not hurt my eyes, or leave me with closed-eye sun ghosts.  i had a glass of champagne once the sun went down, and said “to us!” because my wife was at the bottom of the tree.  then i climbed down, and we watched the best movie ever, which was heartbreaking and sad, and painfully hilarious.  we had steak and lobster for dinner which was the best i have ever tasted, and then listened to “and then nothing turned itself inside out” in silence on our gigantic backporch.  our kids played in the yard, chasing fireflies until a storm rolled in.  we fell asleep to the thunder, and woke up the next day, which was saturday again.
