hello friends,

we are moving tomorrow.  this will be my last blog from texas.  once we get to our new place and get an internet connection set up, posts will resume.  i don’t have any words of wisdom or nostalgia at the moment; i’m sure those will kick in as i am driving out tomorrow.  i have had a blast at all of our going-away-festivities, and am really humbled and thankful for so many great friends.  we appreciate your friendships and support more than we can say or type.

by the way.  i’ve been a big fan of “the dodo’s” for a while now, and noticed they have a song in a beer commercial.  frankly, good for them!  dodo’s gotta get paid, yo.  also, if you haven’t heard their song “ashley”, listen to it now.

i will see you all in pixels soon enough.  thanks again for everything!  jck

last show/farewell party and “the road”

that was really fun.  topher was kind enough to host the afore mentioned shindig at his house.  although i took a sober spill within the first hour or two, scraping up my left arm and bleeding a little, i had an absolutely great time.  i didn’t cry which i was pretty proud of, though garrett did his best to ruin that.  i DID remember my camera, and heather took a lot of photos, but we already packed nikon’s proprietary uploading cradle, so those pics will have to wait.  we stayed until the dancing got frenzied; about 2:30.

playing our last show in the living room was great too.  it was the perfect atmosphere for the balcony’s last hurrah.  i got a bit emotional when everyone actually sang along too, it was great!  there were even folks singing along with our cover of bowie’s “five years”.  good times, good times.

this morning was a different story.  in the words of danny glover, “i’m gettin’ too old for this shit”.

i also have to mention, this week heather and i both read cormac mcarthy’s the road and loved it.  it’s dark (duh), but really sweet too.  i recommend it.  after getting so enthused over the book, we skated our pixel-wheels over to imdb to check out some of the movie details.  my hopes are high.  omar little ftw.

boy oh boy am i busy

hello friends.
heather and i have been spending all of our free time packing up the house. this sucks. what sucks much more than packing though, are the extraneous moving errands (shutting off utilities, setting up arkansas utilities, etc). though we are both starting to get misty-eyed about leaving, the work load has given us a “get me the fuck out of here” attitude which will help us with the transition.

last night i went to loxsly’s cd release show.  it was a really good show; fun to watch.  i’m *still* somehow adjusting to seeing another drummer up there, but i like what’s coming out of the loxsly factory.  i was having a bad case of the brain-prollems last night, and when ever this happens, i tend to self-medicate with beer.  i’ve been trying to get my head on straight all day today.

tonight is our “going away” party thing.  also, the balcony will be performing our last set in a living room.  i like that idea.  i am going to bring my camera tonight, and hope to get some photos to post up here.  my hope is that it will be a good ol’ weepy time, but i can’t promise anything.  i’ll give you (?) an update tomorrow.

one week from today we will be loading up all of our material possessions and blowing up an air mattress to sleep on.

no guilt about this…

so…i have to concur with my pal jonathan. i just saw the newest harry potter trailer, and i must say, it looks pretty cool. here’s my thing with harry potter. i always thought it was really dorky. i routinely made fun of close friends and family for getting sucked in to what i thought was a “sweet valley high with magic” phenomena. one day my wife was reading the last book and started CRYING in front of me, because the story was over. i had to see what the big deal was, so i read the first book. then, without pause, i read every other book back to back in the span of about two months (keep in mind i was “freelance”/unemployed at the time). so. i’m a fan. i’m a big, soon-to-be-28, losing-my-hair fan. anyways, i am really looking forward to seeing the movie, the trailer makes it look pretty great.

also looking forward to: “drag me to hell”, “district 9″, “public enemies”, “tetro”, and “away we go” looks pretty damn cute too. should be a good summer.
