a truly unfortunate combination
i’ve got cold beer, nostalgia-infused music, and iphoto. i’m straight feeling the lonesome heavy, my friends. here are a few items unrelated (?) to my somber mood:
1. this weekend several thousand motorcycle riders and enthusiasts have converged on our humble town. i can’t get anywhere.
2. art supplies are fucking expensive. i’m not even going to get started on the price of quality rag paper.
3. i was feeling a lack of soul-music in my life and downloaded bill withers’ record “live at carnegie hall”. i’m very pleased with this purchase.
4. tonight i saw a child cry and say “i want to stay…i’m sorry…i just can’t breathe”. for fuck’s sake.
5. i miss the shit out of you.
6. i can remember what it was like to watch the sun coming up as i was arriving home, and having a feeling of absolute freedom. i think now that i would be really really tired.
7. my tenses are all fucked up. that is waaaay symbolic, yo.
8. whatever happened to josh smith?
9. recently i was asked –point blank and in front of 10 fellow students– by a professor if i often used irony and false cynicism as a way to disguise my emotional tendencies. wanted to know what i was ashamed of. someone’s got my ass figured out.
10. i like graduate school. i just don’t like facing #9.

by the way…
you know you’re drunk when you thank the cat for “sticking with (you) through it all”.
black and white cat, black and white cake
looks like being busy can interfere with one’s blogging habits. my apologies–
but DAMN if i didn’t just see one of the scariest movies i’ve ever seen. you all know i have a sick obsession with horror movies, and there’s no telling what recommendation or click train led me to add this one to netflix…”The Sentinel”. it’s from 1977, and somehow i had never heard of it until it wound up on our queue.
this is not a slasher movie, a haunted house movie, or a zombie movie (some of my favs…), and it actually falls into a sub genre that is pretty iffy, especially considering the last ten years. it’s in the “horror-of-demonic” category…like the exorcist or rosemary’s baby. maybe it’s the PBR, but i think this one is right up there with the afore mentioned. i actually prefer the sentinal and rosemary’s baby to the exorcist…anyways. here’s a list of the cast to pique your interests: chris sarandon, cristina raines, burgess meredith, jeff goldblum, christopher walken, john carradine, ava gardner, etc.
oh yeah, it also gave me the subject line. “black and white cat, black and white cake”. that’s scary enough.
hurry the hell down the rocks
hop over to carlos’ blog if you get the chance. funny things over there.
school is becoming a little more real, more heavy. i’m really enjoying all of the readings i’m doing, but they leave me pretty intellectually exhausted. i’m used to just thinking about when/what to eat. currently:
-writing a 20 page paper relating steve reich’s phase pieces to figure drawings.
-working up some pieces in relation to the idea of “source” per my seminar class.
-trying to get a grip on the idea of hyperreality alla eco.
-drinking tons of pabst blue ribbon, cause that’s how i have to do things here.
if i had to sum up my last week, it would be in the text message i sent to heather during a gallery opening:
“can’t get out of the bathroom. help.”
